Tempt
your taste buds with delicious sausage-it even comes on a stick or in
a variety sampler, mouth watering potato pancakes, traditional hot pretzels
and who can forget the strudel! To wash this all down, grab an ice cold
German beer-great on a hot Texas day. Lemonade and other refreshing drinks
are available at one of the many food and beverage booths sprinkled around
the festival.
Ready to dance? Your ears will lead you to the music where you can polka and waltz to great oompah Bavarian and alpine music performed by Grammy-Award winner Jimmy Sturr, Alpenfest, Kerry Christensen master Yodeler, The Al Meixner Trio, Terry Cavanagh & The Alpine Express, The Sauerkrauts, Die Schlauberger along with many others! If you are in the mood to shop, there are booths with all types of goods for the kids and parents to look and purchase. Along with fun rides and games for the family! The great thing about Wurstfest, is that from the minute you walk through the gate you feel like you are transported to a different time and place. Revelers and event staff are dressed in “lederhosen and dirndls” in honor of the community’s rich German heritage, according to Wurstfest event information. The smells and sights and sounds make you feel like you are in Germany at an “Oktoberfest” celebration. It is great! According to event staff, Wurstfest began in 1961 as a salute to the art of sausage making, and it quickly became an international celebration that now provides an economic boost to New Braunfels. Over the years, the Wurstfest Association has invested more than $2 million in property acquisition and improvements to provide an attractive setting and comfortable environment for families to enjoy. The Wurstfest Association is a non-profit organization with over 250 Opas (members) producing the event each year. Proceeds from the festival are used to support a variety of local community projects. So, if you are ready to treat the family to a true German experience, drive about 20 minutes north of San Antonio to New Braunfels and polka the day away! Admission to the
festival is $8 at the gate; children age 12 and under are admitted free
at all times. Group rates, advance discounts and special weekday promotions
are available. For further information, all (830) 625-9167, (800) 221-4369
