“Held
on Houston Street, between Soledad and South Presa, this convivial
street scene continues the city’s efforts to help return
the downtown area to a place where locals come to shop, dine,
relax and be entertained,” Tilley said. |
According to Tilley Chalk It Up raises public awareness
about contemporary art in a fun, casual environment while reinvigorating
utilization of downtown San Antonio. She also mentions that this
annual community event is an opportunity for locals and tourists
alike to experience our city’s true colors and express their
own creativity.
So, if you are in town for a visit, whether you
are here with the family or on business, come downtown and enjoy
the fun atmosphere of the Chalk It Up festival. There is no better
time to relax, take in some “different” art and even
get involved in a piece of festival history.
San Antonio Express News columnist, Mike Greenberg
said this about the festival, “ The invited artists produced
an abundance of delightful, even excellent works…Plenty of
kids showed up to draw their own visions on the sidewalks-and to
see the work of the accomplished adult artists around them as a
standard to which they might aspire.”
